Desrest Tom,

When you are able to read this, hopefully in the not too distance future.  Please know how difficult it was to leave you.  And know that I will be on the first plane out if you should you want or need me.  Since being here I have had a glimpse into your world that has been a joy, how much people care about you and the many good friends who love you.  Hang in there my dear dear brother, I will be with you in mind and spirit,  just call if you need me.  I love you so so much.  Your friends, colleages and even those who don’t know you have all pulled together in a way I thought was not possible – it is amazing what we can achieve when we pull together.  I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for your efforts, prayers and thoughts in support of Tom.

Nick, Kerry and Erin, you have been a wonderful support, taking us into your home with welcome arms and putting up with the rollercoaster of emotions.  Thank you for your words, kindness, deeds and constant attention to our every need.  Your support of Tom and his family has been incredible and you have my heartfelt thanks  – sorry there’s that word again – but how else can we  show our appreciation, actually thank you is really not enough – but my deepest thoughts of kindness and best wishes will be with you for always. Erin was a constant reminder of how good life should be and took me away from all the sadness for a little while and rejuvinated me.

Thanks to Grant for the wonderful support and care at the hospital and for just being there when I needed a hug.  Thanks to Trev for all the help and tablets we needed.

It was really difficult to get around JHB – and it was only possible with help from a couple of good friends of Toms – thanks to them for the transport and also a big thanks to Kevin Makings and Barbara for their support during my stay.  It was lovely to get to know you although it was in difficult circumstances.

My very dear cousin James thank you for being there when I needed you, for collecting us and taking me to the airport and for understanding and listening.  Thanks for lending him to us Sarah – it was lovely to get to know you a little and to meet little Dan.  Thanks to Brian for your constant thoughts and for someone to talk to who has been through a similar situation – your kindness and information has been of great value to those of us who you have spoken to.

Tom I am thinking of you nearly every minute of the day and when I wake at night and in the early mornings.  I am constantly waiting for updates on how you are doing and hopefully you will be doing the updates soon for yourself.

My thoughts and prayers are with you continously Sal, Ciara and Erin.  All my love.
