Hello,
Dr Moeng was away for the weekend so there has not been a doctors’s meeting for some time, though Jane has managed to glean most of the necessary info from the nurses.
Tom is off the feeding tube now and eating “proper food” (which Tom told me was actually quite good – and then qualified this by saying “I suppose its all relative!”).
He is also off the drips and so on, so the main thing he’s connected to now is the ventilator. Currently it appears the routine is that he manages all day without it, but is reconnected for about 6 hours at night. At some stage they will try him without it for 24 hours, though this will be determined by when he is ready. You will have read Sal’s update about his right lung not being 100% yet, so patience still the key, though progress is in the right direction.
Apart from the breathing aspect, the relocation to a chair is the other big challenge Tom’s dealing with every couple of days – and as Sal said yesterday its one that takes a lot out of him. Good thing there’s a lot in him to start with…
Till we hear more, cheers.
Nick
