So Tony has been rampaging (well, more of a trundle, but then he IS only 10 days away from the National Arts Festival, – his day job) through cyberspace and has managed to fix the comment problem. Photo uploads however are still not permitted as this was how our hacker loser managed to get a grip on the site. Thanks Tony, and thanks to you all for your patience with this technical problem. I’ll advise when pics can be uploaded in due course.
While I’m here I can tell you that I visited Tom last night and connected the laptop so he could read some more comments from the site. He went through all of the ones attached to my post entitled “Staggered”, and was much appreciative of the support from you all.
There is so much content here for him to go through but he will get to it all eventually. Please keep commenting, and if you’d like to contribute anything to the main page just mail me and I will post it for you (within reason!).
Best,
Nick

About three years ago Tom and I were part of a group (of about 14) that went to Outward Bound in Chimanimani on some management/strategy development exercise. To discover ourselves, we pasted flip chart sheets on which anyone would comment on the attributes of any member of the group. Tom’s atributes were stated by others as:
“Reluctant Leader
Capable Leader
Mind over Matter
Our Inspiration …. We are behind you
Aggressive Businessman
Holistic Leader”
I see no contradiction between the first and the second: the first is a question of humility and the second, of competence.
Tom quoted the following verse by TS Elliot:
“We shall not cease from exploration
And at the end of all our exploring
We will arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.”
On that same sheet Tom commented on it as follows:
“The TS Eliot extract expands on … exploration and depicts the part of my life that continuously needs to be busy. Busy searching for some kind of self-fulfilment and happiness.
The extract then pits out the simple trust: All that I am looking for I already have. The journey and all the exploring relevant only in their contribution towards this realization.
This is the simple truth I still search. I am looking for proof in the potential that is in me. I believe that it is there and see glimpses from time to time. I am just not (yet) able to be mindful of it most of the time.”
Thanks
Allan
