ZIMBABWE’S SHOW OF STRENGTH

There is no way we are going to let the Aussies and the Poms beat us, so come on Zimbos lets get out there and show them what we are capable of.

Join us at Borrowdale Race Course on Saturday 12th September at 10.00am for a walk around the course followed by a family picnic.  Entry fees will be posted on the web shortly.

This is a “show of strength” for Tom and Sal.  We need them to know that we are fighting and breathing for Tom every step of the way and this is our way to show it.

So come on bring your kids, dogs, grannies, grandpas and lets do this for Tom.

As England said “Lets mobilize ourselves to help mobilize Tom!!”

England’s Show of Strength – the details!

Date: 12 September 2009

Time: 0930 Start / Registration (but you are welcome to join in at any stage of the day.  Finishing just after lunch, around 2pm)

Meeting Point: Isabella Plantation Car Park, Richmond Park, London

(the car park is on a road inside the park, running parallel to the A308, Kingston Vale Road.)

Bring: Picnic Lunch, drinks, bikes (if cycling), walking shoes (if walking) and as many friends as you can!

Entry Fee: £5 for individuals or £15 for a family of 4.

We want to welcome as many people as possible to join us in Richmond Park for a fantastic show of support, love and strength for Tom and Sal.  Let’s give them a boost; let’s stand up and be counted; let’s show what we are made of!  I am hoping that we can all get together and share a lovely day with people who have one common interest – TOM.

This event is all about getting together.  So if you are unable to join us for the cycle or walk, please come and join us for lunch or for a few minutes during the day.  The more the merrier.

For safety reasons we have decided NOT to cycle out of the park, but rather stay on a roughly circular route inside Richmond Park boundary.

We have a number of walks and cycles including:

Short walk – 1.5 miles which will take about 45 minutes

Longer walk – 3 miles which will take about  1 hour and 30 minutes

Mountain Bike Circuit – 7.35 Miles around the perimeter of the park. (short cuts also available)

Road Circuit – Going anticlockwise round the park – each circuit being 7 miles – do as many or as few as you like!!

(There are lots of short cuts for those who cannot manage the circuit – but we will be clocking up the miles … we just have to beat those Ozzies!)

On arrival:

Meet at the car park around 0930.

Register your name as an individual or a group and pay Entry Fee (and any other donation if you able/willing)

On registration you will be given an event number and we will ensure you know your route.

At the end of the event, please make sure you sign out so we know you are home and safe!

The Entry Fee can be made in cash to Tom’s sister, Gretta, or in cheque form.  If making payment by cheque, please make this payable to ‘Gretta Mackenzie’.  All funds raised from this event will be paid, by Gretta, directly to Tom’s trust account (details on Tom’s website) after the event.  Donations are also very welcome.

Tom has asked that this money be used to help purchase a standing wheelchair.

So let’s mobilise ourselves to help mobilise Tom!

HOPING TO SEE LOTS OF FACES.
Contact Gretta or Lyn for any further details.

Score A Signed Gerrard Shirt!

Alan Jenner and his business partner Jim Elliot of Richmond Fiduciary Group in Guernsey have managed to obtain a Steven Gerrard signed Liverpool shirt, dedicated to Tom. How much is it worth to you?

Alan and Jim set up Tom’s Guernsey trust account (The Marley Trust – Tom’s primary trust fund) shortly after the accident, and they are generously managing it for free as well.

Alan says: “It’s a large red shirt, signed on the back with his name and number, being number eight – Red and Eight are very lucky remember!

As you may know he is the Liverpool FC captain with 333 appearances and 71 goals and a stalwart of the England side with 74 appearances and 14 goals and he will be playing in the World Cup in SA in 2010, barring injury.

This shirt is guaranteed an original by the Liverpool Supporters Club in Guernsey and a certificate of authenticity will be supplied with the shirt.

The shirt will be appearing at the Richmond 21st birthday celebrations, as an auction item, on the 15th of August and therefore subscribers to Tom’s site have just over a week to make their bids before it goes up for auction.

Finally, and quite obviously, all proceeds are to be donated to Tom Soper Trust fund in respect to the specialised wheel chair required.”

So, here’s your chance to own an exclusive piece of sport memorabilia, and contribute to Tom’s ongoing mobility. Bidding opens on the comments section below. If you wish to remain publically anonymous then you can do so, but make sure you fill in your email address in the box below so at least we can track you down!

Obviously the winning bid on the site here could be topped at the event on the 15th (it will probably be the reserve price), so try to shoot high to make sure you win!

Bidding on this site closes at midnight on August 14th. The leading bidder will receive correspondence confirming their bid during the course of the day on the 15th. Good luck!

Australia’s Show Of Strength!

Inspired by England’s Show of Strength, Australia will follow suit and have similar events across Aussie cities.  We’re calling on all people who live in Australia, and know Tom, to come together for an Australian Show of Strength. Again, please note that this is not a fundraising event, though all monies collected will be put toward the cost of a “standing wheelchair” for Tom.  The Aussies will keep track of the number of kilometres travelled to see if we can beat England?  Bring your family and friends and come and join Australia’s Show of Strength for Tom.  Along the way we’ll be breathing and smiling with and for our friend.

Current locations and full details available below…. Read the rest of this entry »

England’s Show of Strength!

Calling all people in the UK and surrounds who know Tom, or who have been touched by his plight – we are organising a Show of Strength for Tom on Saturday 12th September 2009, in London.

Meeting in Richmond Park around 9:30am, bring your kids, parents, grandparents, friends and who ever else you want – grab a bike, a pair of walking shoes, roller blades, wheelchair, zimmer frame – and join us for a great, fun, fab family day out.  This event is a chance for us to finally DO SOMETHING for Tom – we want to show him and the family how much they mean to us.  This is not a fundraising event, though all monies collected, and any other monetary donations you may want to submit, will be contributed toward the cost of a “standing wheelchair”.

Entry donations are £15 for a family of four, and £5 for an individual entry. If you’ve spent your last penny getting to London that’s also fine, as long as you’re prepared to be seconded as a marshal or time-keeper, or as the event photographer!

Tom is travelling along a tough path.  He has an almighty journey ahead of him.  We plan to physically travel along a part of this journey.  With our love and support, he and his family WILL get through this.

We want everyone, no matter how young or old, fit or otherwise, to take part.  A short circuit in Richmond Park can be travelled by all – if you want to do all or part of the circuit, you are very welcome.  Those who want to extend themselves and stretch further can join us on the 50 to 80km cycle ride around the Richmond circuit and out into London and beyond!

While you wait for the mildly insane to return from the 50 to 80km cycle, tuck into your picnic lunch and enjoy the company of great people, surrounded by the spectacular grounds of the park.

Ideas of T Shirt printing are also in the pipeline – does anyone know where we can get T Shirts done for a great rate?

So bring your family, bring a picnic, bring your friends, bring your bike (or other mode of transport!) and bring anything else that you may need … and join us for a lovely day in the park.

Please leave a message on this site or contact Lyn lynstrydom@aol.com or Gretta gretta.mackenzie@sky.com if you want to register for the event.

We need names …. we need numbers … we need your support.

See you at Richmond on the 12th September at 9.30am. An additional map site available here.
