Dearest Sal and Tom, My dear friend, Nonto, died suddenly on Wednesday morning. She was in her early 40s. She was one of those people I loved, respected, trusted deeply, in a quiet, unpublic way. We didn’t see each other very often – perhaps 3 or 4 times a year – but that didn’t seem to matter to us. When we did meet we cut through the shit really quickly. Talked about our lives. Our loves. Our children. Our work. I”m going to miss her deeply. I already do. I wrote a letter to her this evening, and then went back to this website, as I often do, rereading a few entries. Connecting with the love and emotion and honesty of your experiences and other people’s feelings over the last few months. There is something so deeply of the heart going on here, on these ‘pages’. A sense of community that defies geographical distance or time. I know you’ve been through some horrendously hard times in the last 10 months, and I’m sure there have been some lonely moments too (even with the increase in the number of people now in your lives). But I also see the spirit of you both shining through, the love and courage and gratitude you feel so strongly. And, I have to tell you, it’s contagious! You have taught me -I suspect many of us- how to live life more fully. And for that we are eternally grateful.
So… Happy birthday, Sal. Wishing you and Tom much, much love.

    Hi Tom,

My name is Chris Kimaru (I currently live in SA) and we were neighbours in Loresho when you guys lived in Nairobi and we used to play together in primary school. I was emailed the link to your site by our friend Chris Waweru (he is now in the UK). I am truly touched by your story and my family will keep thinking about you. Your tenacity will amaze you more than you think. God bless you Tom, Sal and your girls.
