    Hi Tom!
I signed on to run (ehm, walk) the Bridge to Brisbane with John. I am going to have to start doing some serious excercise in the next month, but even so I will probably embarass myself. Anyway, will be thinking of you when I brave the treadmill! Lots of love to Sal and the girls,

    Dear Tom
I have been following your story since my son Paul Bowen told me about you. Paul only speaks highly of you. You have a lot of friends who really care.
I know lots of people are praying for you. Somewhere along the line God does have a plan for you. It must be hard for you to see this now when things have been moving slowly.
I have just finished a book by Philip Yancey called “Where is God when it Hurts”. In this book it mentions another booked by Rabbi Harold Kushner entitled “When Bad Things happen to good people”. I read this a few years ago, and found it encouraging. You need all the encouragement you can get, and the best encouragement you can get is from people who have been in a similar situation as yours.
On page 110 of Philip Yancey’s book there is a story about Mary Verghese who had a very bad car accident. Her story is quite amazing and states that “Mary Verghese has probably achieved far more than she would have had the accident not occurred.”
On page 115 of the same book tells the stories of Brian Sternberg and Joni Eareckson Tada (page 127). Perhaps these two stories will give you some encouragement. Maybe you could borrow the book and read the pages as mentioned above.
No-one can know what you and your family are going through.
I will continue to pray for you and your family.
    God Bless
    Margie Bowen

    Hi Tom

I can’t believe it was 20 years ago that I met you in Zim with the rest of the Soper family – so welcoming and enthiusiastic. Intermittantly I had updates of your developments via the family links but did not expect what I heard in June.

I was so sad to hear your news that I have to confess I avoided updates for a while. Belatedly ie. today, via your dad and my dad at their weekly tennis matches I have just heard about your mum’s trip up too though she is now on mend and back in UK.

I can’t believe how spirited you, Sally (hello – I would like to be able to say it in person one day) and your girls (my 3 are a similar age and would love to get to know there 3rd cousins) are whilst all this is happening – complete with website, thinking of helping others and so much more.

Huge hugs and love to you and to Sally and your girls. Helen

    Dearest Tom,
Have been keeping up with your movements on the site and through mum, Nick and others. I am the first on-line when I get home in the afternoons and it was good to hear that the move went well. Am looking forward to the show of strength in Richmond next week, although i don’t know how many will show up – I hope it is a lot, we are hoping to get together in support of you which is the important thing. I have been a lot off line lately and hope you do not think that is because I am not thinking of you and breathing daily with you. After the show of strength it is Douglas’ birthday weekend and then am flying out to be with you. Is there anything you need from here? If there is just let me know. I love you and am thinking of you and moving on into rehab and am really looking forward to spending some time with you again. Take care and love you. Gretta xxxxxxx

I am so keen to understand what this next phase will mean and require so we can imagine what you are doing and send positive thoughts for each action. The Shows of Strength are fantastic and incredibly inspirational – as are you and Sal! Hugs and breaths and patience and inspiration and may your life be touched by something beautiful today that shows you how cared for and thought of you are. Michelle xx

We will be thinking of everyone participating, both on the Sat and the Sunday venue in Perth. And to TOM, love you! The msasas are in full bloom.xxx

The level of organization and participation for the Harare walk today was astounding. It serves as a wonderful model of support for Tom and others in his situation. The mood was upbeat – people enjoyed the fine weather and a chance to exercise. As they say in the movies “Feel the love”…Regards to Tom and family, Jane and Robert and Greta. Cheers, Jonathan

    Hi Tom and Sal,

So sorry we have been out of touch. We have been catching up with John & Tess over email over the past few months and have been reading the blogs and hear that you are home now. That is a miracle – congratulations! I hope you enjoyed being with the family in familiar surroundings. I can’t imagine how this must be for you, Sal and the girls. Essi and I have often discussed how ncredibly lucky we are to have a full life and three healthy kids. Actually, Otto, now 7 broke his shoulder ice-skating 2 weeks ago – turned out he had a tumor growing in his shoulder, but thank goodness it is benign and a day operation filling his bone with paste will fix it – that’s as bad as it gets in our little lives in Seattle. Amyways, we have had a thankful xmas and new year and so appreciative of the life we have together. Sal, if there is anythig we can do for you, please rach out. We are thinking of you often – the challenge of raising the girls, working, taking care of Tom – unimaginable challenges. We want to support you. I hope this message reaches you and gives you strength. We’ll be in touch. Warmest rgds David, Essi, Mathilda, Otto & Hugo (rainy Seattle, Washington, USA) Our email address is : davidandessi@hotmail.com
